REPORT FROM ROAD AND BRIDGE COMMITTEE
By: Pete Raatikka, City Engineer

The Road and Bridge Committee met at 2:30 p.m., April 18, 1989 at
the Ramsey Municipal Center. Members present were Councilman A1
Pearson, Councilman Ken Peterson, Merle Mevissen and myself. The
following items were discussed and recommendations were made for
council action.

ITEM Mi: 153rd Avenue (C.S.A.H. No. 5 to Ramsey Blvd.)

BACKGROUND:

I informed the committee that I had met with John Stine from the
DNR and he recommended that the City pass a resolution of need for
the project and also prepare an Environmental Assessment Worksheet.
I also informed him that we had completed preliminary surveying and
we are currently in the process of drawing up the alternatives.

It was the consensus of the committee to try to schedule a meeting
with the residents on May 2, 1989 and review the alternatives.
Following that meeting, the city Council should pass a resolution
of need and order an EAWo

Council Action: None.

ITEM 02: Crack Filling 1989

BACKGROUND:

It has been the City's policy to fill cracks in streets prior to
seal coating. Last year the City contracted the work out
specifying that cracks be filled with a rubberized asphalt crack
filler. Based on the results from last years' project, it is the
recommendation of the committee to follow the same procedure this
year as last year.

Council Action:

Motion to:
Motion to authorize city staff to obtain price quotes for the
crack filling of the City's streets proposed for sealcoating.

ITEM 83: Policy on Existing Gravel Streets and Substandard Roads

BACKGROUND:

Based on a cost comparison of maintaining bituminous streets versus
gravel streets, it appears that bituminous streets are more
economical to maintain.
