With its alignment
problems, limited right-of-way, and poor access to other transportation systems, I can understand how State Highway
#47 could find itself as a low-priority for the Department of Transportation. However, as it stands today, State
Highway #47 is one of four major north/south transportation systems for the Northern Metropolitan Area.
Naturally, we in the City of Ramsey are concerned about the level of maintenance and the quality of transportation
that State Highway g47 provides because it does travel through our community. I would like to ask that you and
your staff continue your review of State Highway g47 and take whatever actions are necessary to improve upon the
current safety characteristics of this highway. The short term needs as we see them are:

· Improved sm'face maintenance
· Frequent striping (needed because of limited shoulder width; in some eases the shoulder does not exist)
· Cross-walk designation where pedestrian crossing is predominant
· Signalization at the intersection of County Road #116 and State Highway ~47
· Right-of-way cleating to improve upon visibility, particularly in the area of 153rd Avenue N.W.

For a long-range solution, we support the proposed changes to the State Trunk Highway System by the Anoka
Comprehensive Transportation Plan. Our community is prepared to make long-range commitments to preserve right-
of-way and limit development access to this proposed realignment of State Highway #47. We ask that you and your
staff keep an eye to the future, but at the same time maintain the existing State Highway g47 in a safe condition for
our travelling public as well as the travelling public when the)' are pedesn'ians.

Very Truly Yours,

CITY OF RAMSEY

Gary R.
