Subd. 24. "Roof Sign" means any sign erected upon the roof of <br />a structure to which it is affixed. <br /> <br /> Subd. 25. "Roofline" is defined as the top line of the coping; or, <br />when the building has a pitched roof, as the intersection of the outside wall <br />with the roof. <br /> <br /> Subd. 26. "Sign" means any letter, word or symbol, device, <br />poster, picture, statuary, reading matter, or representation in the nature of <br />an advertisement, announcement, message or visual communication, <br />whether painted, posted, printed, affixed or constructed, which is displayed <br />outdoors for informational or communicative purposes. <br /> <br /> Sub& 27. "Sign Area" means that area within the marginal <br />lines of the surface which bears the advertisement, or in the case of <br />messages, figures or symbols attached directly to any part of a building, <br />that area which is included in the smallest rectangle which can be made to <br />circumscribe the message, figure or symbol displayed thereon. The <br />stipulated maximum sign area for a free standing sign refers to a single <br />facing. <br /> <br /> Sub& 28. "Street Frontage" refers to the proximity of a parcel <br />of land to one (1) or more streets. An interior lot has one (1) street frontage <br />and a corner lot has two (2) such frontages. <br /> <br /> Sub& 29. "Temporary Sign" means a sign which is erected or <br />displayed for a limited period of time. Such temporary signs shall include, <br />but not be limited to, those listed in Section 170.053P and pennants, banners, <br />paper and other similar types of signs. <br /> <br /> Sub& 30. "Wall Sign" means any sign which is affixed to a <br />wall of any building. <br /> <br /> Sub& 31. "Window Sign" means a sign placed on a window, <br />or any sign placed within a building for the purpose of being visible from <br />the public right-of-way. <br /> <br />170.053 General provisions <br /> <br />The following provisions 170.053A - 170.053Q shall apply in all districts. <br />170.053A Address sign <br /> <br />One (1) address sign shall be required per building in all districts. <br />170.053B Bench signs <br /> <br />Bench signs shall be permitted only at bus stops. <br /> <br />170.053C Canopies <br /> <br />Canopies and marquees shall be considered to be an integral part Of the <br />structure to which they are an accessory.
