In order to meet the demand anticipated from future growth in the City, we offered the following recommendations to the Parks Commission and at the joint meeting: Acquire vacant land east of Central Park for future expansion of organized athletic fields. Enter into a formal agreement with the school district to assure availability of existing play fields on school property. a. Acquire additional acreage (approximately 30 to 40 acres) near school property for future athletic facilities development. b. Negotiate interest in the landfill's north 80 borrow area for development of athletic facilities (50 acres) possibly in lieu of the proposed ski hill. It is anticipated that either 3a or 3b would be undertaken but not both. Under the current development agreement, a decision would probably not be made on the alternate recreation parcel until March 1, 1994 (60 days after closure). The City Council should, therefore, consider an option to purchase the land east of Sunfish Lake Blvd. The option term should be set so that a final determination of the disposition of WMMI's alternate recreation parcel is made prior to expiration of the option. An additional small park expansion is the proposed expansion of Woodland Green. This could occur through the platting/dedication process. Accompanying your agenda package is the proposed park plan for your information and reference in your roll file. staff Recommendations: Adopt city Parks & Trails plan. Council Action: Motion to adopt/revise or amend the official parks and trials plan and adopte Resolution 90-05- indicating the same.
