Hartley Police Secretary Arlene Stafford FROM: Finance officer Sandra Ashley DATE: April 17, 1990 SUBJECF: ]~LECTION JUICES HOURLY RATE - AVAILABLE SUBSIDY At the regular council meeting of April 10, 1990 a letter from Anoka County was presented as part of the case titled "Optical Scan Units for Voting." This letter also made reference to: · o .a 15 cent per capita subsidy, based on the Metropolitan Council's population estimates as of Feb. 23, 1990, to be paid to election judges providing the resulting pay is at least $9.00 per hour. The per capita estimate for the City of Ramsey is 12,717; therefore, the available subsidy is $1,907.55. During 1988 the City's election judges were paid as follows: Election Judge Chief Judge $5.50/hour $6.00/hour 1 The staffing requirements for 1990 have been reviewed with Arlene, following estimate at the suggested rate increase is provided: and the I RATE PAYROLL HOURS INCREASE INCREASE I I I I 45 Election Judges 1,350 $3.50/HR $4,725.00 10 Chief Judges 300 $3.00/HR 900.00 Estimated at 1,650 $5,625.00 By increasing the hourly rate to $9.00 for ail judges, the City would increase the payroll by approximately sixty percent or the estimated sum of $5,625.00, not including associated payroll costs. While the subsidy available for 1990 would offset approximately 21% or $1,908 of this suggested increase, the availability of subsidies beyond 1990 is not mentioned within the letter from Anoka County.
