1. Tie securely with the specified wire to prevent displacement of splices <br />during placement of concrete. <br />B. Splice devices: <br />1. Obtain the Architect's approval prior to using splice devices. <br />2. Install in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. <br />3. Splice in a manner developing at least 125% of the yielding strength of the <br />bar. <br />C. Welding: <br />1. Perform in accordance with AWS D1.4-79. <br />D. Do not splice bars except at locations shown on the Drawings, except as <br />otherwise specifically approved by the Architect. <br />3.4 1'BSTING <br />A. Samples: <br />1. Samples for physical tests of reinforcement will consist of at least two <br />pieces, each 18" long, of each size of reinforcement steel, selected by the <br />testing agency from material at the building site or at the fabricator's or <br />supplier's yard. <br />2. Material to be sampled at the building site shall have been delivered <br />thereto at least 72 hours before it is needed. <br />B. Tests: <br />1. Where samples are taken from bundles as delivered from the mill, with <br />the bundles identified as to heat number, and provided mill analyses <br />accompany the report, then one tensile test and one bend test will be <br />made from a specimen of each ten tons or fraction thereof of each size of <br />reinforcement steel. <br />2. Where positive identification of the heat number cannot be made, or <br />where random samples are taken, then one series of tests will be made <br />from each 2-1/2 tons or fraction thereof of each size of reinforcement <br />steel. <br />3. Payment for testing is described in Section 01410 of these Specifications. <br />03200-4 <br />
