1. Do not use horizontal construction joints except as may be shown on the <br />Drawings. <br />2. If additional construction joints are found to be required, secure the <br />Architect's approval of joint design and location prior to start of concrete <br />placement. <br />3. Apply specified curing compound to vertical face to act as bond breaker. <br />B. Expansion joints: <br />1. Do not permit reinforcement or other embedded metal items that are <br />being bonded with concrete (except dowels in floors bonded on only one <br />side of the joints) to extend continuously through any expansion joint. <br />2. Fill expansion joints full depth with expansion joint material approved by <br />the Architect. <br />C. Sawn joints: <br />1. Sawcut joints into slabs within 12 hours of pouring, or as dictated by mix <br />design to prevent cracking or spalling. <br />3.8 CONCRETE FINISHING <br />A. Except as may be shown otherwise on the Drawings, provide the following <br />finishes at the indicated locations. <br />1. Scratch finish: Apply to monolithic slab surfaces that are to receive <br />concrete floor topping or mortar setting bed. <br />2. Float finish: Apply to monolithic slab surfaces that are to receive trowel <br />finish and other finishes specified hereinafter, and to slab surfaces which <br />are to be covered with insulation. <br />3. Trowel finish: Apply to monolithic slab surfaces that are to be exposed to <br />view, unless otherwise shown, and to slab surfaces that are to be covered <br />with resilient flooring, carpeting, paint, or other thin-film finish coating <br />system. <br />4. Non -slip broom finish: Apply to walks, stairs, chives, ramps, and similar <br />pedestrian and vehicular areas. <br />B. Finishing: <br />1. Formed concrete: <br />a. Tops of forms: <br />1) Strike concrete smooth at tops of forms. <br />2) Float to texture comparable to formed surfaces. <br />b. Formed surfaces: <br />1) As -cast finish. <br />2) Patch tie holes and defects after form removal. <br />3) Remove fins from surfaces. <br />2. Flatwork: <br />a.
