8. Unless otherwise shown on the Drawings, provide running bond; with <br />vertical joints located at center of masonry units in the alternate course <br />below. <br />9. Do not use chipped or broken units. If such units are discovered in the <br />finished wall, the Architect may require their immediate removal and <br />replacement with new units at no additional cost to the Owner. <br />10. Build -in through -wall flashing as detailed in Drawings. Set top 6" of <br />flashing in mastic to back-up. Seal laps, fasteners, and lap -top edges <br />with mastic. Install rope wicks spaced approximately 2'-0" on center in <br />head joints above through -wall flashing. <br />11. Construct control joints and expansion joints. <br />12. Build in loose structural steel lintels, beams and anchor bolts. <br />C. CONCRE I'E BLOCK <br />1. Lay concrete block in running bond with 3/8" wide joints unless <br />otherwise indicated on the Drawings. <br />2. Lay the first course of concrete block above footings, foundations and <br />concrete slabs in a full bed of mortar. Lay successive courses with <br />divided bed joints. Butter head joints on both faces, and shove into <br />place to squeeze out excess mortar. Clean mortar from exposed faces <br />immediately and keep free of droppings. <br />3. Continuously reinforce concrete block walls and composite brick and <br />block walls with joint reinforcing placed in mortar joints not over 16" <br />on center vertically. Embed side rods in full mortar bed. Lap <br />reinforcing 6" minimum. <br />4. Tool exposed joints in concrete block work to a smooth, dense, surface. <br />Cut concealed joints flush. <br />5. Construct control joints for concrete block walls using keyed concrete <br />block. <br />E. CONCRETE BLOCK LIN 1'ELS AND BOND BEAMS <br />1.
