PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.1 PAINT MA 1'ERIALS <br />A. Materials shall be best quality products as manufactured by Hirshfield Paint ; <br />other acceptable manufacturers: Devoe & Reynolds Co., O'Brian Paint Corp., <br />Cook Paint & Varnish Co., Glidden Co., Sherwin-Williams , Olympic, and <br />Benjamin Moore & Co., Pratt & Lamert. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.1 SURFACE CONDITIONS <br />A. Examine the areas and conditions under which work of this Section will be <br />performed. Correct conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of <br />the Work. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected. <br />3.2 PREPARATION <br />A. General: <br />1. Finished surfaces and surfaces not to be painted shall be protected from <br />damage during preparation, priming and painting operations. Cover <br />floors and fixed equipment with drop cloths, and mask and suitably <br />cover surfaces. <br />2. Surfaces to be painted shall be suitable for a first class finish, thoroughly <br />dry, clean, smooth and even, and free of dust. <br />B. Ferrous metal: clean thoroughly to remove rust, mill scale, grease and dirt. For <br />shop coats clean rusted, chipped or abraded metal and touch-up with primer <br />before application of field coats. Unprimed ferrous metal shall be wire brushed, <br />scraped and sanded and primed immediately. <br />C. Gypsum Drywall: spackle minor irregularities in gypsum board. Sand smooth, <br />even with surface when dry, avoid raising nap of paper and remove dust. <br />D. Wood: <br />1. Sand wood to be painted as necessary to remove defects. After primer is <br />dry fill voids and nail holes with putty. <br />2. Wood to be stained shall be clean and free of surface dirt. Prime and <br />backprime all surface including edges and ends. <br />09900-2 <br />
