The Primary Election has been scheduled for Tuesday, February
26, 1991 and the Special Election will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 1991. As both of these
elections fall on regular City Council meeting dates, these meetings need to be rescheduled. State
Statutes prohibit city councils from conducting meetings between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the day
that an election is held within the boundaries of the city. Rather than delay the meetings until after
8 p.m. when the polls close, it is recommended that both Council meetings be held the following
Wednesdays on February 27,1991 and March 13, 1991 because of the anticipated full agendas for
those meetings.

For your information, Anoka County has indicated that the City will be reimbursed for all costs
associated with the special elections, including staff time and election judge salaries.

Council Action:

Motion to reschedule the regular City Council meetings of Tuesday, February 26, 1991 and
Tuesday, March 12, 1991 to Wednesday, February 27, 1991 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March
13, 1991 at 7:30 p.m.

Reviexv Checklist:

Administrative Coordinator
Acting City Administrator

CC: 02-12-91
