2. Water Treatment
All current water sources for the City of Ramsey exceed recommended levels for
Iron and Manganese. As the city's population continues to grow, it is anticipated
that there will be increasing demand for improved water quality regarding Iron
and Manganese levels. In addition, due to significant increases in the water
supply demands, surface water sources will need to be evaluated to meet the
City's water needs. A water treatment facility would be required to treat surface
water sources. Due to the large number of wells which would be required to meet
the future system supply needs, the current system of multiple chemical feed
points may result in water quality inconsistency across the system. Also, multiple
feed points will represent a substantial security risk to the system.
3. Storage
Existing storage facilities in the City of Ramsey consist of two (2) elevated water
towers as shown in Table ES.4.
TABLE ES.4
EXISTING STORAGE FACILITIES
Tower No. 1
Tower No. 2
Capacity (gals)
500,000
1,500,000
Year Constructed
1989
2000
High Water Level
1036
1035
The recommended additional required storage is based on the higher of the
average day needs or maximum day, fire protection and emergency storage needs.
Based on current water use patterns, average day criteria governs for current water
use patterns.
Thus, an additional 2.9 million gallons of storage is required within the next 10
years.
City of Ramsey, Minnesota — M21.34343 Page ES -3
Water System Study Prepared by Bolton & Menk, Inc.
