City Submits Response to ThriveMSP 2040; the Metropolitan Council's 2040 Regional Development
Framework
The City Council authorized a response to ThriveMSP 2040, the regional development framework developed by the
Metropolitan Council that sets the stage for System Plan development (1. Transportation, 2. Water Supply/Wastewater, 3. Parks,
Recreation, and Open Space, and 4. Housing), and ultimately leads to an update to the City's Comprehensive Plan.
Generally speaking, the City commented on the need to focus on capacity
improvements to the Transportation Plan and work towards a regional solution
to water supply (mix of ground water and surface water along with water
conservation). The City also commented that although the City's Future Land
Use Map has the capacity to account for the draft Household, Population, and
Employment Forecasts released by the Metropolitan Council, the City is not
convinced that these forecasts are achievable unless significant capacity
improvements are made, most notably in the subjects of transportation and
water supply. The City also previewed potential comments to the upcoming
System Plans set to be released over the next 12 months.
This stage is only the first of several phases for the public to become involved in the process. The City Council is committed to
a smart, citizen -focused government and will continue to open up a variety of opportunities to provide comment and help
develop the City's next Comprehensive Plan Update.
The City's full response can be found by visiting www.citvoframsev.com/ComnrehensivePlan.
Community Development Department Welcomes Summer Interns Tom Olson and Brad Knott
The Community Development Department is excited to welcome Tom Olson and Brad Knott as interns in the Community
Development Department. Tom brings to the team experience in architectural design and transportation planning and will be
working on zoning administration, comprehensive planning, and developing materials to better meet our customers' needs and
approaches. Brad brings to the team project management, customer service, and economics experience working on building
permit administration, inspection scheduling, and streamlining processes. This is Brad's second internship with the City, working
in the same capacity last summer Welcome back, Brad!
