Ms. Dodge stated that P~msey's overall park plan needs review and suggested <br />that the Commission prepare a 10 year plan and work with Council from that <br />to devise a new comprehensive park plan. <br /> <br />Mayor P~imann was agreeable to Ms. Dodge's suggestion. <br /> <br />Chairman Lichter inquired if there would be a problem with the Park <br />Commission requesting to use sc~e of the unused park money not spent in <br />previous years that was rolled over into the park trust fund. <br /> <br />Councilmembers Sorteberg and Cox stated that they expect the Park <br />Commission to come forward with recommendations for the use of the funds. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sorteberg stated that there seems to be a problem of <br />inadequate parking space at Central Park. <br /> <br />Chairman Lichter stated that there is sufficient area available at Central <br />Park for parking that needs to be developed. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann suggested that the Park Commission pursue improving parking <br />facilities at Central Park. <br />Councilmember DeLuca suggested that ' no parking ' .~ be posted on the <br />residential side of the street across from Central Park. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann and Commissioner Shum~ay agreed that there should be at least <br />one hockey rink along with the pleasure rink maintained at Ramsey School. <br /> <br />Ms. Dodge stated that Ms. Sather also feels there is a need for an <br />additional pleasure rink. One pleasure rink is presenting a safety hazard <br />with respect to the wide variety of ages skating on the same rink. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox stated that he has access to culverts, posts and cable <br />at quite a cost saving that can be used at parks and inquired if the Park <br />Commission is interested in pursuing those items. <br /> <br />Ms. Dodge noted that the School District is making an effort to make some <br />improvements at the park on Ramsey School grounds. The children raised <br />$7,000 at a walk-a-thon to be used in that effort. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann stated that the Lions Club is a good supporter of community <br />activities and urged support of the Lions as the funds come right back to <br />the community. <br /> <br />Councilmember DeLuca agreed with the need for development of active parks <br />but not to the point where neighborhood parks would be neglectedas many <br />children can't get to Central Park. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann directed the Park Commission to continue to pursue <br />development of a multi-use trail system. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sorteberg noted that there is a need for a warming house at <br /> Joint City Council-Park & Recreation/March 12, 1987 <br /> <br />Page 5 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
