He also stated that the Council might want to provide a summary of <br />the facts "as we know them" to be available for publication. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox amended his motion to include ...with a high priority on the <br />dissemination of information regarding the referendum, in the Ramsey Resident. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Cox, <br />DeLuca and Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #4 Discuss recommendation from Park and Recreation Commission regarding <br /> c6~truction of baseball diamond at Central Park. <br /> <br />The Council considered the recommendation from the Park and Recreation <br />Commission regarding the construction of a baseball diamond at Central Park. <br />Funding for the baseball field was discussed. Financial donations as well as <br />donations of equipment and labor have been solicited. A respresenative from the <br />Lions stated that $2,000 has been committed by them for a baseball field. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember DeLuca to to approve <br />construction of a baseball diamond at Central Park subject to outside <br />commitments. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Cox, <br />DeLuca and Pearson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #4.A Discussion of Council Salaries and Consideration of an Increase <br /> <br />It was established that the current yearly salaries are $3,600 for the Mayor and <br />$3,000 for each Councilmember. Any change in salary will go into affect the <br />January after the next election. <br /> <br />Councilmeber DeLuca stated that more than one Council meeting a month is being <br />attended by the Councilmembers and this should be given consideration in terms <br />of a salary increase. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox stated that the current salary does not always offset the <br />expenses he incurs as a Councilmember. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sorteberg stated that he would not vote for an increase in <br />salaries. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann stated that at minimum, salaries should cover the expenses <br />incurred by the Councilmembers. Only after becoming Mayor did he realize how <br />expensive it was to serve Ramsey as Mayor. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember DeLuca to direct staff <br />to prepare an ordinance to increase the Mayor's salary from $3,500 to $6,000 and <br />the Councilmember's salaries from $3,000 to $4,500, per year, and include the <br />same insurance as the other City employees. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Reimann, Councilmembers Cox, DeLuca and <br />Pearson. Voting No: Councilmember Sorteberg. <br /> <br />City Council/August 25, 1987 <br /> Page 15 of 16 <br /> <br /> <br />
