Policy 4: Work with local and regioual partners to conserve, protect and enhance the region's vital natural

<br />Council Role
<br />· Partner with state agencies, counties, communities, builders and developers, and non-profits to conserve,
<br /> maintain and restore natural resources identified in regional and local natural resource inventories. Integrate
<br /> natural resource conservation strategies into regional system plans for infl'astructure improvements and
<br /> development and to restore degraded natural resources of regional importance to support an interconnected
<br /> network of natural resources.
<br />· Coordinate and provide technical assistance to communities as they develop local stormwater management
<br /> plans consisteut with ~vIinnesota Rules Chapter 8410 and the MLPA.
<br />· Expand the regional park system, as appropriate~ to conserve, maintain and connect natural resources
<br /> identified as high quality or of regional importance. Invest in acquisition and development of land for'the
<br /> regional park system.
<br /> Develop and promote the use of best management practices for abating, preventing and removing point and
<br /> nonpoint source pollution; reducing soil erosion; protecting and improving water quality; and .maximizing
<br /> groundwater recharge. , ,, ,_
<br />· Provide technical assistance to communities regarding the adoption and enforcement ofenviromTiental
<br /> preservation and conservation techniques and ordinances.
<br />· Work with public and private entities to maintain the quality of regional water resources.

<br />· Complete local natural resource inventories as they deem appropriate. Give strong consideration to
<br /> integrating natural resources, including aggregate, identified in regional and local natural resources
<br /> inventories into local land use decision-making. ;.. 5
<br />· Adopt and enforce erosion control ordinances and other environmental preservation and conservation
<br /> techniques and ordinances.
<br />· Prepare and implement local stormwater management plans consistent with Minnesota Rules Chapter 8410

<br />· Include as a part of local park systems natural resources that are identified as high quality or of local and
<br /> regional importance.
