Mr. Har~t~ey~ agreed with Chief Grlffin's recommendation that if the
Council ~grees to the concept, the Relief Association shoul~ be
a]lowe~ ~o ~eflne the package, seek bids, obtain the Insurance, and
maintai! the program. It would eliminate time Staff wou]~ have to
spend on, It, and he felt the Fire Department Is better able to
reach a ~onSensus among themselves as to the operation of the
program, r

Mr. Hart!ey then noted that by tabling Case #3, the Relief
Assoclat!on has not yet been established. The Council also suggested the
By-Laws ~ave a provision ]n it that the funds provided by the City
for the ~rogram will be used for that disability insurance.
Another ~uggestion was that the Relief Association provide a copy
of the p~emium statement as assurance that the funds are being used
for thatlpurpose. Ms. ~cAloney also noted a policy will not be in
effect u~til after the first of the year because bids wl]] be
taken.

~OTION ~ DeLuca, Seconded by Cich, to have Staff proceed with
short-t~r~m disability for the Fire Department, seek and receive
bids andi~get the ball rolling on that for one year, and that the
Association 'will change their By-Laws; and It will run through
them forithe second year and afterwards. FURTHER DISCUSSION:
Councllmu~nber DeLuca stated it is with the underst~nding that the
cost will! not exceed $5,750 for the year. Motion carried
unanimously.

CASE #6~ workers' Compensation Claim for Jay Guimont

Mr. Hartliey explained Jay Guimont was injured fighting a fire and
is receiving medical benefit from Workers' Compensation benefit
insurance pr,ovi~ed by the City.
