Mora Munici~l~irport
The City of Mcra had previously completed an Environmental Impact
Assessment R~Po~t for Airport improvements. In 1982 the planning for
a 75 x 40001~ru~way 17-35 was. undertaken. .The planned alignment of
the runway c~ossed three ma]or peat areas Including a sizeable
wetland. ~D~ing pre-design studies, it ~as determined that a savings
of over $300~00Q by shifting the runway 100' to the
could
be
realized
east. The Pr~liminary cost estimate and engineering report for the
preapplicat!~? Was based on this concept. Airport layout and zoning
plans were r~vi~ed and a supplemental.e~v~ronmental assessment report
was preparedi!an4 approved. Land acquisition was completed by
September. ! i .
STS advised ~n specific earthwork techniques and design alternatives
for the peat iar~as. Design documents were prepared and the project
let for a fail ~983 construction start. Surcharge over the peat areas
was left in~la=e for a year. Finish grading ~nd paving of the 4000
~ ' ' ' l
runway and o~nnecting taxiways were completed in 1985.
Fairmont Mu~ci~al Airport
The C%ty of ~ai~mont was awarded a preliminary FAA AIP allocation but
the City was ire~uested to submit further preliminary planning relative
to scope and~cO~t of proposed project work. Within 45 days beginning
in August 1983,'ithe project scope was defined and cost estimates
prepared so ~he~iCity could accept the AIP grant. Design documents
were prepare~ a~d bids let in the Spring of 1984. The project
included a new!Passenger terminal, a crash-fire-rescue building, ramp,
taxiways andiiau%o parking with a project cost of about.$900,O00..
Johnson-FOrberglAssociates, Ericksen Ellison and Associates and Soil
Testing SerVices were members of. the project team.
Corporate H&~ga~ Complex for Van Dusen Airport' Services,'

Van Dusen de~irgd to construct a hangar/office complex to be used as
rental space ~fo~ corporate aircraft-o.wners. It was determined that the
best approa~ f~r Van Dusen was a design-build contract. A site plan
layout was 4~eioped and bidding documents prepared for a design-build
proposal. '~dS}were solicited from four bUild,rs, and a contract was
negotiated ,~thlithe selected bidder. ~he bidding documents essen-
tially defi~d.~he project as to locatlon on site, clearances,
interior bu~di~g .layout (25,000 sqUarel fo°t hangar plus offi?e
space), max~iireqUirements as to' aircraft.weight and size, interior
finishes, e~.,iii!in order to get comparable bids. In addition, design
documents we~e.Drepared for the aircraft ramp, taxiways and auto
parking areas ~This $950,000 project was completed in 1984.
