Chairman [ppel mentioned the June 2, 1984 Open House at Gateway
North.

Brenda Bauerkemper - Prior to initiating an Airport Master Plan,
what did ~he Airport Commission do as far as preliminary footwork?
Were cities With airports contacted regarding the problems and
benefits of municipal airports? Also, we are told by Council that
Metro Council has a lot of power; could they make us build a bigger
airport?

Mark Ryan' - Right now, Gateway is privately owned and Metro Council
has no jurisdiction over it. If Ramsey wishes, Council can designate
Gateway a~ municipal airport. In order for that municipal airport
to be under the wing of the Metro Airport Commission, Ramsey's Council
would ha.ye to initiate a request

Citizen in audience - Do we need Metro Council to run our airport?

Mark Ryan~ - Metro Council is only a planning body and the Metro
Airport Commission is responsible for identifying the needs of
regionaI ~irport facilities and assisting communities in implementation
of their development plans.

Brenda Ba~erkemper - Did the Commission contact personnel in other
cities that have airports?

Chairman !ppel replied that he talked to some people on an informal
basis.

Sharon Ma~er - Did City Council ever consider the feelings of
Ramsey residents or did they just appoint an Airport Commission?
Those of ~s ~!that live near the airport are in a less affluent
section oif Ramsey, but we still don't want it in our area.

Citizen 1~ audience - At the airport public hearing two years ago,
there was overwhelming support for 'no airport in Ramsey'

Chairman iIppel replied that there is nobody on the Commission that
wants that a~irport expanded to greater than what is being proposed;
what is bleinlg proposed is the minimum in order to qualify for
State and Federal funding. With regards to Council appointing this
Commission, you would have to ask Council their reasons for doing

SO.

Sharon Mager - Will the Airport Commission make a recommendation
to Council?''

Chairman IpPel replied that the Commission will make a recommendation
to Counail based on the results of the study.

Brenda Baue~kemper - When the Commission was established, did
Council place the Commission on a budget?

Chairman Ippel replied that the Commission was not given a budget;
the only other expenses incurred by the Commission was the cost
of the City~wide mailings.

AP/May 16, 1984
Public Meeting
