The deadline for submittals is November 2, 1992. The Twin Cities <br />region has be~n~ al~bcated STP funds by the Federal Intermodal Transportation Efficiency Act of i991 <br />(ISTEA). To d~e, ~0me of these funds have been allocated to highway and transit projects by the region. <br />An interim proc4~ iL being put in place at this time to solicit bikeway and walkway projects. A total of <br />$1,500,000 is availals!e. A permanent process for allocation of STP and other federal funds will be developed <br />later this year. <br /> <br />As you may knoW, "Enhancements" is another category of federal funding that can be used for bikeways and <br />walkways. Thosg fUnds are not included in this process. If the Metropolitan Council/TAB is assigned <br />responsibility to ~allocate those funds, a process will be developed later in the year. <br /> <br />While the interi~ p.~'ocedures described in the attachment seem applicable for bicycle and walking facilities, <br />they may need t0 t~: adjusted to better serve the region in the future. The TAC/TAB will utilize the <br />applications submttt&l as input for the development of the permanent process .for allocating federal funds. <br /> <br />The accompanyittg material describes two categories of projects -- traditional and innovative. There are <br />~p~,~c, ,~'i~ia :for e. aci', cat~g,a~y. <br /> !, <br /> <br />All submittals m~t ~be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 2, 1992 to be considered.
