City of Ramsey <br />Page Two <br /> <br />COM~NI/"f SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM: Provides the necessary work towards a long <br />term solution to battering through information and education presentations, <br />training and a variety of printed and visual media. Presentations are provided <br />to churches, civic groups and service organizations. Volunteers are recruited, <br />trained and supervised through the program and provide a strong support system <br />for residents in the shelter, community, other programs and staff. The Hospital <br />Advocacy component provides 24 hour direct service advocacy and support to <br />battered women who access the emergency room at Health One Unity and Mercy <br />Hospitals. Services include crisis intervention, advocacy, information/referral <br />and support. In October, 1992, services to northern Anoka County in the cities <br />of East Bethel, Bethel, Oak Grove Township and St. Francis began and includes <br />support groups, advocacy, transportation, information/referral and support as <br />well as satellite office space. <br /> <br />INTERVENTION PROGRAM: Works directly with the cities of Blaine, Fridley, Circle <br />Pines and Lexington police departments, the Anoka County court system and <br />community organizations. This effort assists battered women and their families <br />through arrest and non-arrest cases, criminal court proceedings and ensures a <br />coordinated response to the issue of battering. Services include direct service <br />legal advocacy, support, information/referral and transportation. The <br />intervention staff also provides in-service training to various community and <br />justice representatives. <br /> <br />Alexandra House, Inc. currently has a 15 member Board of Directors, many of whom <br />represent our community through law enforcement, court services, mental health <br />services, finance and legal services. Our primary service area is Anoka County <br />although we provide services to any family in need. <br /> <br />Our staff is a blend of professionals who bring a variety of skills, expertise <br />education and/or personal experience related to the issues of domestic violence <br />and battered women and their children/youth. <br /> <br />Volunteers play a vital role in increasing our ability to provide quality <br />services on a cost effective basis. In 1992, volunteers contributed 12,889 <br />hours--more than 6.0 full-time positions. <br /> <br />In 1992, Alexandra House has provided emergency shelter and supports services to <br />699 women and their children/youth. Our daily average occupancy has been 17 <br />women and their children/youth and we have maintained a 100% occupancy rate since <br />January, 1, 1992. <br /> <br />In addition, community advocacy services including intervention, hospital <br />advocacy, assistance with filing Orders for Protection, support groups, community <br />and school presentations, legal clinic services haVe been provided to over 6,500 <br />persons in the Anoka County community. <br /> <br />Throughout our history and growth, Alexandra House,Inc. continues to maintain <br />it's commitment to quality and effective services to battered women and their <br />children/youth. <br /> <br /> <br />
