August 17, 1993
Paul Hoffman

collector street with 22 private driveway accesses which ma>' contribute to additional traffic
accidents as these residents attempt to leave their homes. With the additional right-of-way,
several of the existing homes would have only one-half the required setbacks from the
MSA road. At the connection w/th County Road #83, the vehicles traveling west would be
required to stop, then turn left onto Count>, Road #83 and make an additional right rum in
approximately 2,2040 feet The additional tums required by this alignment would lead to a
possible increase in the number of accidents as vehicles accelerate and stow for these turns.
These acceleration and deceleration zones would also contribute greatly to the amount of
noise caused by the traffic.

Alternate 2: Constructing the new roadway in a straight east/west connection. This
al/gnment would generally direct traffic to 154th Lane N.W. which, similar to 156th
Avenue N.W., was constructed as a residential street_ By reconsrructng this street to MSA
standards, 39 single family homes and accesses would be directly affecteA This alignment
may be designed to encourage traffic to turn left onto County Road #83 and then fight onto
153rd Avenue N.W. The distance for this maneuver would be approximamly 1,100 fee[.
Cin, studies show that a vehicle would only attain a speed of approximately 35 m.p.h.,
wh.[ch is 20 m.p.h, under the posted speed before decelerating to turn west onto 153rd
Avenue N.W. Bv these Md/tonal rums, much of the rmffic would chose to continue west
on 154th Lane N.W. rex].u.irmg additional maintenance and an increased chance of accidents
as residents use th/s street.

Once again, thank you for your comments concern/rig the EAW for 153rd Avenue N.W. If you
require any additional information, please contact me at 427--1410.

Sincerely,
crrx~ OF ax~s~ /
Project Mana~~~~ * .,.._~~.....~
Enclosures

?0

I
!
I
I
I
i
I
!
I
I
i
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
