Health Care Facilities <br /> <br />Acute care facilities are available at Health One Mercy Hospital in the City of Coon Rapids, <br />located just southeast of the City of Ramsey. Mercy Medical Center is licensed for 271 acute <br />care beds. In addition, Ramsey residents have access to the extensive health care resources <br />located throughout the metropolitan area. <br /> <br />Education <br /> <br />Most of the City is located in Independent School District 11 (Anoka-Hennepin); a smaller <br />portion of the City is located in Independent School District 728 (Elk River). 1SD 11 is the <br />second largest district in the State, comprised of all or portions of 13 municipalities and <br />encompassing 172 square miles. Ramsey Elementary School, part of lSD 11, is located within <br />the City. lSD 11 and lSD 728 had total 1992/93 enrollments of 35,663 and 6,993 students, <br />respectively, in grades kindergarten through twelfth. <br /> <br />Transportation <br /> <br />U.S. Highways 10 and 169 run parallel to the Mississippi River through the southern portion of <br />the City. Interstate Highway 94 lies approximately 20 miles west of the City. A network of <br />county roads provide access to these major highways, allowing for easy transit to the rest of <br />the metropolitan area. Commercial airline service is available at Minneapolis-Saint Paul <br />International Airport. <br /> <br />GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION AND SERVICES <br /> <br />Organization <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey was incorporated in 1974. The City is organized as a Home Rule City <br />under a City Charter which was adopted in 1984. The City Charter has been amended four <br />times, most recently in December, 1988. The City Council consists of a Mayor and four Council <br />members, all of whom are elected at large. Council members serve overlapping four-year <br />terms of office. Schroeder, the City Administrator, joined the City of Ramsey in June, 1991. Prior to <br />this, he served as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Robbinsdale, Minnesota. The <br />Administrator, who also fills the positions of Clerk and Treasurer, is appointed by the Council <br />and serves at its discretion. Ms. Jessie Hart is the City's Finance Officer and has served in this <br />capacity since June, 1993. Prior to this, she was the Assistant Finance Director for the City of <br />Crystal, Minnesota. <br /> <br />-11 - <br /> <br /> <br />
