Mr. Larsen suggested
that the Newsletter carry one page on the budget. Mr. Bulen said
the figures looked realistic to him. Mr. Bulen said he thought
the Board knew what they needed to run the To~fnship. Mr. Hopper-
stad read the financial report. Mr. Larsen asked how much we had
budgeted for clerical work. He said we must not ask for all vol-
unteer work. Mr. Oliphant: What is the policeman in our Town-
ship expected to do and what are we paying for this? Mr. Hopper-
stad read him the figures that had been spent on police protec-
tion out of revenue sharing.

Rev. Lea asked about the $35.66 in last year's budget and now it
is $20,500. Mr. Hopperstad explained this to Rev. Lea. $119,000
is our budget limitation and this is all we can budget. Mr. Mur-
phy said the government is using the 1970 census and that we had
tried to get another census and the government said they would
only do it if the whole County was censused.

Mr. Mike Auspos wanted to check on the legality of the Township
controlling minibikes. He said the kids feel snowmobiles can
operate along the ditches but minibikes can't. We might be able
to arrange a policy whereby they could be allowed to use certain
sides of the ditches. They did this on a permit system in Coon
Rapids for snowmobiles and it seems to be working out pretty good.
Two minibikes were almost wiped out by Mr. Murphy on the way over
here on a dark road. The Sheriff's office is obligated to supply
protection "on call." A day car stays in Ham Lake all day since
the trouble they had there. Mr. Auspos is working for us 20 hours
a week. We pay 1.96 mills toward's the sheriff's department. We
should go on record as insisting the sheriff's office spend the
time for which we are paying in our Township. The sheriff's office
is contracting with Ham Lake. Mr. Oliphant said the sheriff's
officers were issuing some speeding tickets out here for which
they are collecting the money. We should look into some funds
that he thinks we should be getting. Mr. Auspos said we could get
effective protection by programs where the people are watching out
for others in their own neighborhoods. Mr. Coe asked whether an-
other part time policeman would be the answer? Mr. Coe moved that
we should look for another part time policeman. Seconded by Mr.
Martin Gorham. Mr. Auspos said that a part time policeman would
have to be certified within a year. Motion carried.
