- 2 - Pub. Hrg.3/11

had spent $27,900 on the roads in the Township in 1972. The
Board has been encouraging the County to take over this road
because it would cost so much to resurface it that it would have
to be assessed back to the owners of the property along this road
and it would be very expensive. 50~ of the trucks driving on this
road come from outside our area and it just doesn't seem fair for
the residents along this road to have to pay for a road for them.
He expects the roads in the Township will triple in mileage in the
next couple of years. The Township is legally responsible for its
roads. The County is being sued right now on a road. Blacktopping
alone on this road would cost about $50~O00 per mile, according to
Mr. Lundheim.

Mr. Fields said this meeting is being held so that you can relay
your thoughts and ideas to Jake Lundheim. The map is just a sug-
gestion for the people to see what it could be like. If the cost
of acquiring the additional land needed to widen this road goes
over the $10,000, there is a possibility that the County could
help us out on it. He asked whether we thought it was important
enough for the County to help on this road. The County would not
be taking over any more roads because they have so many roads now
that need upgrading that they should not be spending mony on any
new roads.

Mr. Kork: Has a 32x32 new garage. Hoped they would not take it.
Mr. Lundheim said they were not going to take any buildings.

Bob Ehalt: He said it looked like they would be taking 12 feet
of his land. This will bring the road only 30 feet from his house.
He said it doesn't make sense to come so close to the homes when
you have so much land. He thinks most of the homes on the other
side have more offset.

John Hubbard: He asked how incorporation or annexaction will af-
fect this problem. Answer was that the Township (1) would probably
assess part of the upgrading of the road, if done by the Township,
to the land owners. The Township would be pressured into upgrad-
ing this road. (2) He said he had five small children. He built
there with the idea of safety in mind. The way the road is planned
now it will come within 30 feet of his garage. He asked to whom
the small land owners should talk to see about cha~ nging this. He
was thanked by Mr. Cox and introduced to the people present as the
man who had made it possible for us to get a number of items of
playground equipment free for our Township. It is greatly appre-
ciated. He said he had ordered trees and now doesn't know where
to plant them.

Russell Ives: He asked whether Ramsey Township received any rev-
enue from the landfill. He asked why we should worry about the
garbage trucks coming out here from outside of our Township. He
said why worry about a road for these trucks. The City of Anoka
receives the revenue from the landfill. Mr. Cox replied that we
are getting more plats all the time and there will be more and
more traffic on this road. Mr. Hubbard said that we are talking
about investing a lot of property into such a road.
