Wirz is working hard fox the community in
this capacity and emphasized that the Council is very concerned of'the fact that
he must pass the State building inspector's test and that the City will pay for any
classes that would help him in this respect. They have received no bad reports on
Lester Wirz.

Acting Mayor Gotham stated he recommends a 5% increase in salary for Mr. Wirz as

is standard practice when an employee has completed his probation period. He
stressed the fact that he has to pass the building inspector's test and that his
probation period will have to be extended until he does pass the test.

Councilwoman Oliphant said she is usually not in favor of extending probation
periods but in this case she feels it should be extended until he has an opportunity
to be retested and based on the Personnel Committee report and Clerk's evaluation
she does subscribe to a 5% increase in salary.

MOTION by Reimann, seconded by Oliphant to extend the probation period of Mr. Wirz

for 60 days starting today and increase his salary by 5~ effective October 25,' 1976.

Carried 3 AYES

Attorney Goodrich reported on lowering the speed limit on 167th and 169th. He has written
to Paul Ruud asking that the County adopt a resolution to that effect. The State
did give information on 167th off County Road 5 to State Highway 47 and indicated
they have made an investigation and requested a three year accident history for the
area. They are willing to lower the speed limit on this road to 50 mph and want to
know if Council agrees with it and if so, it will be referred to the Highway Commissioner.
This will lower the limit by 5 mph.

Acting Mayor Gotham asked if he felt this is adequate.

Attorney Goodrich replied, according to them it is.
