Mro Steffen did not <br />agree wii:h b~r. (;orham on this point. Mr. Reimann felt it best to hire a <br />-Culltime building inspector/assessor who would do his own clerical work° <br />bit. MJckelson agreed. <br /> <br />Mr o Steffen then asked the Council if it was agreed on the following: <br />(1) recruit an administrative assistant; (2) recruit an adminis'i~rative <br />recep'i~ioni_~l:/bookkeeper, by September 30; (3) recruit a full time building <br />inspector/a:;ses:~or who would do his own clerical work; (4) maini:ain <br />Mrs° Nelson pending review in the next 30 days, <br /> <br />Mro Cox :.~aJd he could not agree on number (4) of that summary~ Mro Mickelsm <br />stated tha-[ Mrs. Nelson should have initiative to seek out work to be <br />done: Mt-. ~]orham asked if there was any problem if we review Mrs~ Nelson <br />in les~ th. an her 6-month probationary period. Mr. Steffen indicated <br />no~ -~his wouJd not be a problem but he also added it hasn't been shown <br />that Mrs~ Nelson should be removed from her position~ Mr. Cox indicated <br />~hat Mrs. Nelson should not look to one Councilman but tha~ she should <br />realize -that the entire Council is making the decisions. Mrs. Oliphant <br />s'ta'ted '[ha'[ the Council should not be vindictive; that none of the Council <br />member~; know what is going on; that Mrs. Net.son should have-the benefit of <br />the doubt amd that the Council should be fair ~nd just~ Mr. Mickelson <br />asked if Mrs~ Nolson would learn anything more in 30 days. Hr. Gorham <br />responded by saying no and that was 2he reason he asked if her probation <br />can be te'rminated in 5 months instead of 6 months. Mr. Steffen stated <br />that he feJt that ?Irs. Nelson got caught up in the controversy re~arding <br />· [:he ~pl)ea]:.; file, the '['uesday morning problem; and that ~t least he <br />per:~on~lJy h;~s not seen enough to make a determination regardin.~ her <br />employment. <br /> <br />Mr o Gowham asked 'the City Attorney whether the City Council had the legal <br />authority -[~o terminate the position currently held by Mrs. Nelson° <br />Goodrich '~'esponded that the City Council did have such authori%y. <br /> <br />Mr o Reimann a:-sked if someone on the Council .caused the problem. Mr o Cox <br />responded by sta-[ing we have a problem with a family trying to encourage <br />p'roblem:~o That the City should check out it's own lawsuits and if we <br />have 'people coercing emp].oyees then the Council should check into further <br />lawsui'[:s on its part° <br /> <br />Mr,, MickeJ.~4on :~tated this is a very serious problem, that is people <br />conspirir~g wj. 1:h the employees.
