Mayor Gamec replied, yes.

Bev Bach, 16320 Olivine Street N.W., asked if the people who are here against
the project have considered the wear and tear on their car due to the condition
of the road.

Gene Valerio, 16514 Jaspar Street N.W. --regarding the dust, someone commented
that they want to come out here for rural living. The dust is so thick when
you~ kids are in ~he yard, think about the dust they are breathing, he would
rather breath smoke than absorf the dust.

Steve Conklin, 7250 163rd, asked about plans by Metro Council for sewer.

Mayor Gamec said the City gets sewer basically when water is polluted due to
improper care of the septic systems and the City has to have a trunk line to
carry the sewage from the area. This trunk line won't even be to the edge of
the City for at least 15 years to never.

Councilman Cox said if the citizens do not take care of their septic systems,
they will have sewer whether they want to or not. This is one of the most
concentrated, oldest, developments in the City. The Metro Waste and PCA
cannot get together to determine what size of pipe should be appropriate if
they intend to service the City. At first, their indications were that
sewer availability would be 1981 and at this point, they cannot even have the
paper drawn up by then.

Carol Thorson, 16511 Quartz, asked about specifications for the street~ regarding
the base if increased thickness of all the layers would increase the life of
the street.

Engineer Raatikka said it could increase it somewhat depending on how thick
you make them.

Councilman Mickelson added that this is the basic street standard uniform
construction for all city streets in all the other municipal areas around.

Jeff Mastley, 164th and Quartz asked what is involved in the cost of running
the grader.

Mayor Gamec said the $52/hour includes, gas, man hours, maintenance of equipment.

Mr. Mastley asked how long will the grader last?

Councilman Cox said the City had an older grader that they just got rid of that
they had since the 50's, ~- could get about 20 years out of it.

Mr. Mastley asked regarding Class 5 roads, if the holes were bladed deeper
would it last longer.

Councilman Mickelson said it would loosen up the base of the road.

Mayor Gamec explained the grading process.

Mr. Mastley asked if it has to be Class 5 or if some other alternative could
be used such as oiling to keep the dust down.

-4-
Public Hearing (Street)
6/12/79
