Community Development Director Frolik stated she would ask the architect to review the
existing and proposed building materials. She noted the gated area behind the fence will have
curbing, and they will be adding lighting, which would have to be approved by Staff and meet all
the requirements. She stated that currently the building is made of fieldstone and metal siding.

Commission Input

Dave Panek, Miller Architects, St. Cloud, indicated he is the architect for Superbowl. He noted
what the Planning Commission has are only preliminary drawings. He stated they are proposing
fieldstone on the front, and would paint the metal to match and dress it up. He indicated he
brought a masonry product that is a metal panel he would like to show the Planning Commission,
and indicated they would paint or stain the cultured stone and metal siding to match.

Mr. Panek indicated one issue they have now is the owner is doing a big renovation inside, so
they are working within a tight budget. He showed the masonry metal panel, noting it comes in
various widths up to 42 inches and 20 feet in height. He stated that from a short distance away it
looks like stucco. He indicated he knows cities are looking for more masonry, and they would
suggest they paint the current metal and use this material on the new portion. He stated it would
be difficult and expensive to match the current cultured stone.

Community Development Director Frolik stated it appears it would have cultured fieldstone
across the front.

Mr. Pontiac indicated it would. He stated there is cultured fieldstone on the left hand side, and
metal on the other side. He indicated they are proposing to keep metal below the windows with
some trim, and replace the efface with new material.

Community Development Director Frolik added the stone would be wrapped around to the side
entry. She advised they are dealing with an existing building, so with the expansion they could
only require all masonry on the new area. She stated to match the existing building they are
proposing a compromise by wrapping the fieldstone around to the side entry.

Vice Chair Johnson asked where they would use the new material.

Mr. Panek stated in the efface areas and on the new part of the building.

Community Development Director Frolik stated it would be nice if they could have a phasing
plan to go back and change the existing metal at some time in the future.

Assistant Community Development Director Trudgeon indicated the new signage would require
a sign permit. He stated he is also wondering what the new height will be.

Mr. Panek stated it goes to 40-feet in height.

Planning Commission/April 1, 2004
