I Ms. Lynne Tacamotto

STATE OF h",iNNESOTA
WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD
123 THORSON BUILDING
7323 58TH AVENUE NORTH
CRYSTAL. MINNESOTA 55428

ROBERT G DUNN
CHAIRMAN

TELEPHONE:
METRO AREA (612) 536-0816
OUTS]A] E 1-800-652-974~

- 2- 7/6/82

I
I
I
I

The cost of the sewer, as it is now proposed, will cause a
financial burden on many area businesses who have little use
for the sewer. Many of these businesses are "dead in the water
hoping for an upturn in the economy. A number have succumbed
to the times, and a number are hanging on by a thread~ Some
have not paid '81 and '82 taxes.

A central water system is also under study by a consulting firm.
This system, in my opinion, is not needed if the expansion of
the landfill to gas collection is disallowed. The cost will
also be added to residents and industrial landowners.

I
I
I
I
I

In summation, a large group of tax paying residents and small
businesses are going to be sacrificed for the profits of a few.
The present landfill operation, although wrong, has been a good
operation. I believe the people could live with its expansion
as a landfill without the gas recovery system. In" fact, there
is plenty of open space for a first class incinerator for solid
waste disposal in this Ramsey industrially zoned area.

Since the expansion of the landfill will kill further develop-
ment as an industrial-park, I am recommending to the WMB that we
include this area in our study of metro processing site inventory.
I am sure we can all live with a toxic or hazardous processing
site a lot easier than with what is now being planned.

Sincerely yours,

I
I

TR/kr

T.T.
