By early 1983, the
Council will determine the number of sites that the Region will need to meet
its disposal needs to the year 2000. The number of sites will depend in part
on how much solid waste the counties can divert from landfills by abatement
programs like recycling and resource recovery. By about mid-1983, each county
will select specific sites to meet its share of the regional need. The .....
counties will then acquire the sites and implement their abatement programs.~--~

The public meetings held by the Council earlier were intended to be the primary
means for local officials and citizens to voice concerns and offer additional
information that the Council could use in making a decision about the proposed
sites. However, if you want to make additional comments and present new
information, you may do so at the upcoming meetings mentioned above--preferably
early in the process at the advisory committee meeting on September 14.

For further information about the meetings, please call the Council's Public
Information Office at 291-6464. If you have questions about the Council staff
recommendation for Site P in Ramsey, please call Lynne Takemoto at 291-6412.

Sincerely,

Charles R. ~qeaver
Chairman

CRW:sje
