Chairperson Riley inquired about code compliance. He asked if a building that is currently in <br />use would need to comply with current codes. <br />Mr. Schwartzman replied the codes are grandfathered in. He explained the handicap code is <br />more for administrative staff. Most other employees have to be ambulatory to do the work they <br />are hired for within Public Works. He noted the law reads that like spaces are needed for all <br />buildings. Mezzanine storage, and storage over the office spaces do not need to be ADA <br />compliant. <br />Councilmember Johns asked if there will be code issues if some of the buildings are upgraded. <br />Mr. Schwartzman said there will not be code issues because these are just storage buildings. <br />There may need to be some minor hardware issues to switch out to comply with safety codes. <br />Public Works Superintendent Riemer stated there are no floor drains in the storage buildings <br />now. They would have to be put in the buildings where there will be vehicle storage. <br />Assistant to the City Administrator Brama noted a motion is not needed. This information will <br />be brought to the Council for its consideration. <br />6. COMMITTEE / STAFF INPUT <br />Councilmember Shryock stated a resident contacted her about putting out stakes. <br />Public Works Superintendent Riemer said the residents can pick up stakes and put them in if they <br />would like to. The snowplow drivers go out and put stakes where they know there is typically a <br />problem. <br />Councilmember Johns asked if Public Works is still hiring. <br />Public Works Superintendent responded all the employees have come back from last year. This <br />will make it a smoother operation this year. <br />Chairperson Riley asked what stage construction projects are in. <br />City Engineer Westby replied the projects are starting to be halted or finished for the winter. He <br />said Riverdale is complete as well as Center Street. He said he is working to get the numbers <br />into Met Council so funds can be collected. <br />Chairperson Riley inquired if there is a plan for seal coating next year.
