5 Minutes CASE ~17:

DISCUSS SAFETY AT THE INTERSECTION OF
VARIOLITE STREET NW A~D COUNTY ROAD NO. 63
By: Pete Raatikka, City Engineer

Background:

On June 30, 1987, the City Council directed me to research the location of the
trees at the intersection of County Road No. 63 and Variolite Street NW. Based
on our survey, there are several large trees on the north side of Count~.Road
No. 63 within the right-of-way. Upon filing of the proposed plat of Pine Cove
which provides for 60 feet of right-of-way on the south side of County Road No.
63, there will be a number of trees within the new right-of-way.

I have contacted the Anoka County Highway Department and they indicated they
would clear the right-of-way at the request of the City and it would improve
the safety of the intersection.

Recommendation:

Based on discussions with Anoka County, the City should send the County
Engineer a letter requesting that the County clear the right-of-way at the
intersection of County Road No. 63 and Variolite Street NW.

Council Action:

Motion to:
Direct City Staff to send a letter to the County Engineer requesting the
removal of trees in the right-of-way at the intersection of County Road
No. 63 and Variolite Street NW.

Review Checklist:

Administrator
Attorney
Engineer
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Other

177
