The concerns center around the work effort that~has recently been
expended with the small ball field and placement of Class V on the
parking lot as well as donations received for ballstops. The parking
lot was located approximately 50' west of the planned location and
would increase the gradient to a future shelter beyond acceptable
levels, thus were this plan to be implemented, the parking lot would
have to be modified. This could be done under the LAWCON grant° A
further concern may be the proximity of the shelter to residences, the
nearest one being approximately 250' away.

Plan C

This plan is based on discussion of the Park Commission on the need of
a soccer field as a higher priority than softball fields.

This illustrates a variation of Plan A which would leave existing
improvements virtually intact, but would provide for a soccer field as
the primary use for the northwesterly portion of the park.

This layout illustrates a 225x330' men's regulation field that would
abut the west foul line of the east softball field. A boy's
regulation soccer field of 195'x300 would fit within this area nd
could be used at the same time as a softball game is played on the
east field.

The tennis courts have been shifted south and the park shelter shifted
east.

The advantages are that both soccer and softball would have regulation
size fields. A need for a soccer field would be met, and the previous
work would remain intact. Further, there is likely to be less
conflict between users and neighbors with soccer than softball,
although the park boundary is still recommended to be fenced. The
soccer field could also serve as a practice softball field by
minimizing any grading.

Concerns about this plan center around the small ball field and its
proximity to the access road and parking as well as the future picnic
shelter location and its remoteness from the parking lot.

An alternative that has been suggested is to provide a soccer field in
the south area of the park. I believe this raises three areas of
concern:

1. Access to the area for construction equipment.

2. Probable adverse affect on future traditional LAWCON grants.

3. Compatibility of active use and passive use areas of the park.
