2015 OUTREACH
Large community events provide an opportunity for ACHS to draw
more people to the museum than we could otherwise.
Anoka Car Show
Tucked away in the collections of the museum lies a Veerac engine and blueprints for
the oft-forgotten car developed in Anoka.Interested car enthusiasts perused the pop-up
display created by ACHS staff on select evenings in the summer, which provoked a
dream of digitizing the large documents and even rebuilding the car one day.Reaching
new and different audiences will remain a focused goal for many years to come.
RiverFest
The exhibit opening of Belles and Beaus
\ coincided with the thousands who walk the
streets of Anoka looking for craft deals. With
wedding music and dancing out front, cake
and lemonade inside, and beautiful dresses to
look at,400+people walked through the
doors that day.The exciting ripple effects of
that event included a continued surge in
visitors for several months,artifact donations
from patrons of their family heirlooms, increased interest in volunteering, and the ability
to connect with the stories of the most remembered day in many people's lives.
Home and Garden Tour Anoka Heritage
Riverfest also provided the ACHS with an opportunity Home 6c Garden Tour
to sell tickets for the Anoka Heritage Home and
Garden Tour. This 12-year joint fundraising venture
with the Heritage Preservation Commission(HPC)of
Anoka, the Home and Garden Tour highlights historic
neighborhoods,beautiful homes,and lush gardens.
The 2015 tour featured the Dunham Oaks
neighborhood, named after a teacher who owned the
land,Marian Dunham.Tour patrons enjoyed the old
oaks,shaded roads and Rum River views,and :.
butterfly gardens of the residents. This project raised
$3,888 for the HPC and ACHS.
