4/5 vote i~ required to adopt zoning ordinanceg. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmemb~r DeLuca to adopt <br />Resolution ~87-245 establishing an airport safety zoning ordinance for <br />Gateway North lvdustrial Airport. (Please refer ~o resolution file for <br />Resolution ~87-245) . <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Councilmember DeLuca stated that there is an ait, ort in <br />existence and there should be zoning in place for it; the issue of airport <br />zoning is separate from the isgue of whether the airport will be expanded. <br />Councilmember Sorteberg inquired if the City is ignorZng previous action <br />taken regarding holding an advisory election. Councilmember DeLuca replied <br />that a more appropriate time for an advisory election would be the second <br />quarter of 1988. Councilmember Pearson stated ti, at the zoning being <br />adopted will also protect the existing airport and can be sca. led down if <br />necessary; whether the airport is expanded or not, it is critcal for ~onjng <br />to be adopted to protect the people that are already there. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimann called for a roll call vote: <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson - Aye <br />Councilmember DeLuca - Aye <br />Mayor Reimann - Aye <br />Councilmember Cox - Aye <br />Councilmember Sorteberg - Aye <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox stated that now there is action in place to which the <br />people can respond by petitioning for a referendum on the zoning ordinance; <br />by their action they may render an advisory election mute and not needed. <br /> <br />Councilmember DeLuca stated that his understanding of the events that took <br />place at the Council meeting on August 25 was that Council was indicating <br />there should be an advisory e!ectien whether the City should have an <br />airport; the minutes reflect that the advisory election was to be on <br />whether or not safety zoning should be adopted.
