U:S~,,_ '~.~ .,Burlington ~ Northern

THURSTON AVENUE

TO OPEN ANOKA'S NEWEST
INDUSTRIAL AREA

Anoka, MN -- Thurston Avenue extension, a 2.7
million dollar bridge and storm sewer project, will
be completed this spring. The new bridge will
open up the city's Northwest Industrial Area
consisting of 375 acres.

The project extended Thurston Avenue from Highway
10 over the Burlington Northern railroad tracks. It
also extended trunk storm sewer and watermain lines
into the area - sanitary sewer and natural gas is also
available in the area.

Future plans call for the extension of Thurston Avenue
to Industry Avenue on the northern edge of the city.
Also, Anoka City officials have been meeting with the
City of Ramsey on the possibility of extending
Thurston Avenue to County Road 5 (Nowthen
Boulevard) in Ramsey.

For more information, contact Robert Kirchner, Anoka
Community Development Director at 421-6630.

ANOKA COUNTY
DEVELOPMENT EXPO
PROPOSED FOR 1987

The Partnership, county chambers of commerce and
municipalities are exploring a long overdue county
wide development expo. The purpose of the expo
would be to showcase the many but often overlooked
development opportunities available in Anoka County.

The Anoka County Development Expo would be the
first coordinated county wide effort by Anoka County
to promote itself to the melzopolitan area. It would
show the development world that we are aggressive,
organized and have a pro-development attitude. ·

A date and location for the event has not yet been set.
For more information contact Curt Larson at the
Partnership office. 786-0869.

U.S. HIGHWAY 10
CONSTRUCTION IS
PUSHED BACK ONE YEAR

Bids for Phase I of Highway 10 were expected to be
let during March of 1987 with construction taking
place this summer. However, MnDOT released a
revised project summary which indicates that the bids
for Phase I will not be let until December of 1987,
which means that construction will take place in 1988
and perhaps carry into 1989.

The reason for the delay is due to environmental and
design approvals necessary before property acquisition
at the Anoka County Airport in Blaine.

As it stands now, Highway 10 (North Crosstown),
would be built in three phases as funds become
available. Stage I will be a four lane expressway
design highway, extending from 85th Avenue North to
TH 65, with signals at 85th and at TH 65, as well as a
connection to the Anoka County Airport access road.
Stage Il is a four lane expressway design highway
between TH 65 and either TH 610 or TH10/47 (yet to
be determined). Stage EH is the completion of the
connection to TH 47 near Egret Boulevard, as well as
the upgrading of design to freeway status. Anoka
County and MnDOT are exploring alternative ways to
expidite this project. _-

The New Highway 10 Task Force chaired by County
Commissioner Paul McCarron, is ope~.. '.onal in Anoka
County. This task force is actively W..orking on :" ·
causing the completion of this important, roadway.
.'.n- .......... r-,,..,~~
