G. FORD BROOK - MINI PARK

This site is developed to the extent of a neighborhood mini-playground --
playground equipment, benches, small amount of open area and newly planted
tree seedlings.

Ford Brook Park is a relatively flat area of 3.6 acres, of which approximately
one acre is usable for playground purposes. Since this is in the proximity of
Riverwood North and South, these combined facilities provide the needed
neighborhood recreational space. Access is by 180th Avenue N.W. only.
Equipment at the park is: I swing set, 1 grill, 1 picnic table, 1 slide, 1 monkey
bar, and 1 sand box.

This park should be kept in mind for upgrading and development as the City
expands. As soon as possible, trees should be planted to buffer the park from
the residential area and to give shade to the park area. Much more interesting
play equipment could be incorporated to provide a multi-use, well designed
park.

BROOKVIEW - SPECIAL USE

Broken up into two different areas, this is a delightful park of 3.3 acres with
2.2 acres along the Rum River. The park had been developed with picnic
tables, grills, swing sets, and some playground equipment along the river.
However, due to high levels of vandalism, subsequent maintenance demands
and difficulties in policing, park amenities have been removed.

This park serves as a rest stop for canoeists and has served as a launching
point for some cancers and kayakers in addition to bank fishing. The heavily
wooded steep bank on the west side of the park serves as a good buffer
between park activities and Germanium Street, however, it makes policing and
enforcement of park regulations difficult. A smaller detached portion of
Brookview Park lies across Germanium Street from the main park area, and
fronts 170th Avenue. This site is presently unused. It most likely will not
support any activities in the future, with the exception of parking -- if demand
necessitates.

A parking area and fence to separate the parking area from the residential area
should be considered. Larger trees for screening would be desireable to screen
the residential area from the parking area.

35
