If approved, the salary increases will take effect January 1, 2005, and will <br />apply to all members who sit on the City Council on the effective date. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to recommend that the <br />City Council introduce an ordinance authorizing a salary increase for the mayor and council <br />members. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Pearson asked how long it has been since there has been a <br />salary increase for the mayor and council. <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed responded the last salary increase was in 1989. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Cook, and Councilmembers Kurak and Pearson. <br />Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: Authorize Appointment of Paid On-Call Fire Fighters <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed reviewed that due to understaffing; staff began a recruitment <br />process to hire eight additional paid on-call fire fighters. Fire Fighter information sessions were <br />held March 18th and March 20th, 2004. Interviews were conducted May 19, 2004. Candidates <br />were interviewed by a panel consisting of the Fire Chief, both Assistant Fire Chiefs, a Lieutenant <br />and herself. Candidates took the physical agility test the first week in June. At this time staff is <br />recommending that membership with the Ramsey Fire Department be offered to the following <br />candidates pending a satisfactory pre-employment physical and drug screen: <br /> <br />Bradley Jorgensen <br />Michelle Dvorak <br />Brett Eenhuis <br />Kim Suchy <br />Andrew Dubois <br />Chad Mulheron <br />Derek Dodds <br />Jeff Erickson <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed explained the candidates will begin employment with the City <br />July 14, 2004, pending City Council approval. <br /> <br />Councihnember Kurak inquired about the benefits for on-call fire fighters. <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed replied the City does not pay for health or dental insurance. <br />The fire fighters are paid $12.50 per hour and are on the City's workman's comp policy. <br /> <br />Councihnember Cook asked if this hiring would bring the staff level up to 40. <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed replied this would bring the total close to the 40. <br /> <br />Personnel Committee/June 22, 2004 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
