Voting No: None. fYI]NgJ L R~ 1.q T NF.q~q Councilmember Schlueter stated that she has recently seen and heard the needs and wants of elected officials, appointed officials and salaried ~mployees. ~his City needs direction for growth, good working relationships, enforcement of ordinances a~d goal setting. Along with those needs are wants for good direction, improving working relationships, taking a stand on ordinance enforcement, and setting goals for growth. Councilmember Schlueter stated that if she can serve positively to set the direction for 1986, bet goals will have been acoomplished. Councilmember Reimann stated the following seven items as his goals: 1) Kelp further educate the public regarding the (Dst of gover~ent and schools and voting; 2) Keep working for the citizens of Ramsey for an affordable place to work, live and play; 3) Bring in and keep o~mercial business in the City to form a good tax base and create jobs for residents and teenagers; 4) Fir~71ize the Tri-City Fire Department oontract if the City can afford to do so; 5) Continue to develop affordable City parks for ~ by the residents; 6) Live within the City's budget even if it means cutting back on servioes; 7) Pursue the Ru~ River bridge crossing, the Mississippi River bridge crossing and the ~hurston Avenue corridor. Counci~r Sorteberg stated the public needs to be educated regarding taxes and how they are levied. Several new projects have been initiated in Ramsey and those projects will have to be carried forth and watched closely. Items needing Council attention are the Rum River and Mississippi River bridge crossings, the airport study and recodification of zoning ordinances. Councilmember Sorteberg stated that he feels the City is on the right track with Council and citizens working together. Councilmember Cox stated that 1986 should be a year of positive actions for the citizens. It is enc~m~bent for Council and all other agencies to actively pursue the Rum River Bridge Crossing. Councilme~ber Cox stated that he is supportive of ~ending the Charter with regards to precinct meetings, which see~ to be a waste of time that Gould be used for other endeavors. ~e entire park system needs attention. Council should work with Waste Management of Minnesota, Inc. and appropriate agencies for the proper closing of the landfill site to insure the best and safest end use of the site. Council should work for the voters and not special campaign supporters. Council should support commercial growth and not run businesses out of town. Cooperation is a strong word in this (xm~unity and councilm~rs should not work with Staff to undermine other councilmembers. Council shoud work with Staff to improve the o0~mmunity for all. If all oouncilmembers would do their share, Council oDuld reduce a lot of high priced S~aff time. If Council works towards these goals, the City will be on the right track for years to Mayor Heitman stated that the City has made some progress with respect to the January 28, 1986 Page 4 of 18
