Councilmeuber Schlueter stated that she has recently seen and heard the needs and wants of elected officials, appointed officials and salaried ~ployees. ~his City needs direction for growth, good working relationships, enforc~nent of ordinances and goal setting. Along with those r~c~Js are wants for good direction, improving working relationships, taking a stand on ordinance enforcement, and setting goals for growth. Councilmember Schl~eter stated that if she can serve positively to set the direction for 1986, her goals will have been acoompl ished. Councilmember Reimann stated the following seven it, s as his goals: 1) ltelp further educate the public regarding the cost of goverr~ent and schools and voting; 2) Keep working for the citizens of Ramsey for an affordable place to work, live and play; 3) Bring in and keep (x~mmercial business in the City to form a good tax base and create jobs for residents and teenagers; 4) Finalize the Tri-City Fire Department contract if the City can afford to do so; 5) Continue to develop affordable City parks for use ~y the residents; 6) Live within the City's budget even if it means cutting back on services; 7) Pursue the Rum River bridge crossing, the Mississippi River bridge crossing and the ~hurston Avenue corridor. Councilm~uber Sorteberg stated the public needs to be educated regarding taxes and how they are levied. Several new projects have been initiated in Ramsey and those projects will have to be carried forth and watched closely. Items needing Council attention are the Rt~ River and Mississippi River bridge crossings, the airport study and recodification of zoning ordinances. Councilmember Sorteberg stated that he feels the City is on the right track with Council and citizens working together. Councilmember Cox stated that 1986 should be a year of positive actions for the citizens. It is enctwpbent for Council and all other agencies to actively pursue the Rum River Bridge Crossing. Councilmember Cox stated that he is supportive of ~nending the Charter with regards to p~ecinct meetings, which se~ to be a waste of time that could be used for other endeavors. ~he entire park syst~n needs attention. Council should work with Waste Management of Minnesota, Inc. and appropriate agencies for the p~oper closing of the landfill site to insure the best and safest end use of the site. Council should work for the voters and not special campaign supporters. Council should sup~x)rt commercial growth and not run businesses out of town. Cooperation is a strong word in this oommunity and councilmembers should not work with Staff to undermine other oouncilmembers. Council shoud work with Staff to improve the (x~mmunity for all. If all oouncilmembers would do their share, Council could reduce a lot of high priced Staff time. If Council works towards these goals, the City will be on the right track for years to o~e.
