asses~ents. <br /> <br />Citizen- ~e Master Plan forecasts money to be spent in Ramsey by transient <br />traffic; there is nothing in Ramsey for transient traffic spend their money on <br />other than Tc~ Th~b and Brooks. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sieber replied that economic benefit is based on people locating <br />their business in the area of the airport thereby providing a place for <br />transient traffic to spend their money. <br /> <br />Citizen- Is this fbmmission for or against the airport? I get the feeling <br />this Co~mission wants the airport regardless of what the people want. <br /> <br />Citizen - Written comments sukmitted to the Commission in favor of the airport <br />were from pilots that do not live in Ramsey. How many letters did this <br />Commission receive from businessmen planning to move their business and <br />f~ilies to Ramsey? <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel stated that whether or not the airport will be used is one of <br />the things the Master Plan looks at. Members of this Commission have put in <br />many hours obtaining information to base a decision on. Chairman Ippel stated <br />that he will base his decision on information gained and comments from both <br />sides of the issue. <br /> <br />Citizen - Why did air traffic at Gateway decrease over the years? <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel replied that the decrease in traffic was due to the economy, gas <br />prices and type of operation; the economy is getting better and the type of <br />aircraft Gateway would accomodate is becoming more popular. <br /> <br />Commissioner Stauffer noted that the minutes of this Commission's meetings show <br />that this (~ission is making every attempt to be objective. <br /> <br />Commissioner Greenberg stated that he chairs the Economic Development <br />Cc~mission and it's purpose is to bring industrial and commercial develol~ent <br />to Ramsey. Gowmissioner Greenberg stated that he was involved when Ramsey was <br />a t~wnship; it was realized that residential develo~x~ent only would result in <br />unaffordable taxes and 1400 acres was set aside for industrial develo~ent. <br />Cc~mission~r Greenberg stated that the taxes on his business are $90/day and <br />many other businesss are also ~ying at that rate; most of that money goes to <br />the school district. ~he race for c~mmercial and industrial develoI~ent is on <br />in Minnesota in order to ease the tax load and the only thing Ramsey can do is <br />development that 1400 acres. Chairman Greenberg inquired as to what could be <br />done for the residents of Safety Zone B with regards to subdividing in order to <br />be able to afford asses~ents. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sieber stated that this Commission could make recommendations to <br />Council but Council is not obligated to follow those recommendations. <br /> <br />Commissioners Donovan and Sieber stated that they feel it is time to vote on <br />whether or not to recommend Council adopt the Airport Master Plan. <br /> <br />C~missioner Stauffer stated he thinks there are issues that need further <br /> September 3, 1985 <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />
