I
!
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Chief of Police Auspos said yes, that the Cit probably gets more
from POST than is reimbursed to officers for training expenses.

Councilmember Sorteberg asked if the last offer to the Police was
a flat 3% increase.

City Administrator Schnelle replied that it was.

Councilmember Sorteberg said that offering items (a) and (b)
wouldn't really cost any more to the City than a 3% increase.
would recommend offering items (a) and (b), a 4% increase, and a
$10 monthly increase towards health insurance coverage.

Councilm~mber Reimann stated that item (a) should be reworded so
that if POST funds disappear, the City won't have to pay for
these expenses.

City Administrator Schnelle stated that that would be a
renegotiable item.

Councilm~nber Reimann stated that yes it is, but if it's in a
contract, it's in. Just leave out wording that training is at
the City' s expense.

Councilmember Sorteberg suggested that the language be change to
reflect that the City is being reimbursed for these expenses.

Councilm~m~r Reimann said that he would recommend no higher than
a 3% increase and cut out the holiday and insurance request.

City Administrator stated that the holiday request had been
removed; the Police are now asking for only a pay increase and an
increase in insurance coverage.

Councilmember Reimann stated that he would offer a 3% increase
and items (a) and (b) or nothing.

Councilmember Sorteberg stated that this offer would be taking
away from the City's original offer. If the City doesn't go with
a 4% increase, items (a) and (b), and a $10 monthly increase in
insurance coverage, the City won't have a chance. If the City
can save 1% in salaries, it should try.

Councilm~nber Reimann asked where inflation will stop.

O~uncilmember Sorteberg stated that inflation will never stop and
that he would like to get this matter settled.

Councilmember Reimann stated that he would too and that the other
employees who got a pay increase and an increase in insurance
coverage shouldn' t get that.

City Administrator Schnelle stated that there are two different
bargaining units.

-4-
