MINNESOTA 55303
May 2, 1985

Dear Mr. Schnelle:

FUNDS AVAILABLE FROM ANOKA COUNTY
FOR LOCAL RECYCLING, COMPOSTING
AhiD WASTE RF_DUCTION PROC, RAMS

I am writing to inform you that at its April I(>, 1785 meetings the County
Board adopted the attached policy regarding distribution of the funds
currently being received from the County's landfill surcharge fee. This fee is
charged for waste deposited at the two landfills in the County.

A major feature of this policy is making available up to $1.25 per household
for cities and townships in the County to help establish recycling, composting
and waste reduction/education programs. (Also, an additional $.50 per
household is available from the Metropolitan Council to fund similar
activities.) Cities and townships will have considerable flexibility in
designing their programs to reflect local conditions and needs.

If your community is interested, the first step is to develop a work plan for
your proposed program. More details are included in the attached policy. If
you have que~tions~ feel free to contact the County's Solid Waste
Coordinator, Norm Schiferl at ~21~7(;0, extension I 173.

We hope your community can use these funds to establish a program to help
reduce the need for landfills!

,/~erely~ ,,

A.
