Mr. Daniel A. Comeau
September 25, ]9~~,
Page Seven

18.

The exact location of areas of hazardous waste disposal is not known;
however, the likely area of hazardous waste disposal can be surmised from
information provided in the Evaluation Report. It is believed that the
disposal of hazardous materials did not take place after 19Z2. The most
recent subsequent air photo was taken in 1973, which shows the area of
disturbance, is Figure 34 of the Evaluation Report. It is therefore
believed that disposal of hazardous materials would likely have been
confined to the northern and western portions of the landfill, as shown in
Figure 34.

An effort is being made to further delineate areas of past hazardous waste
disposal. At this time, specific information has not been revealed
during our on-going records search or telephone calls. Pertinent
information will be provided to the MPCA as and if it becomes available
and will also be documented in the Final Report and shown on the updated
topographic site map.

19.

The updated topographic site map which will be submitted as part of the
Final Report will include the location of wastewater treatment sludge
impoundments, The information is available in the submitted Evaluation
Report on Figures 32, 33, and 34.

20.

The updated topographic site map which will be submitted as part of the
Final Report will include location of the current water treatment lime
sludge stockpile area. The location of this area has been submitted in
the Evaluation Report and is shown on Figures 36, 37, and 38.

,.Monitoring Well Installation

21.

~ages 23-26. The two lysimeters installed beneath the Anoka Sanitary
Landfill are still in existence. The location of the lysimeters is shown
on Figure 9 of the Evaluation Report. Anoka County has periodically
monitored the lysimeters with no reported water quality impacts.

Air Quality Investigations

22.

Page 29. A September 1980 report by Ingrid Ritchie, Ph.D., entitled,
"Migration of Landfill Products from the Anoka Sanitary Landfill Located
at Ramsey" (enclosed) provides analytical results of landfill gas samples.
"...concentrated gas samples were collected from the soil (August 20,
1980) and the gas venting stack (September 9, 1980) into aluminized Mylar
bags. These samples were analyzed by the Minnesota Department of Health
and Agriculture and by the University of Minnesota (Biological Sciences,
Biochemistry}. The qualitative analyses by gas chromatography/mass
spectrophotometry did not detect the presence of chlorinated hydrocarbons,
volatile acids, cyclic or aliphatic hydrocarbons at levels of 50 ng/2 ul
injected sample. Methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrogen, and
argon were detected."
