Gateway is not looking to <br />replace Crysta/~ this Co~ntssion was not directed to look at a facility <br />capable of handling any other type of plane than what is operating at Gateway <br />now. Gateway's classification would be Basic Utility geared towards the types <br />of planes being used in the sm~ll business sector r~w -- singles and light <br /> <br />Mr. Terry Hendriksen stated that there would be no roc~ for expansion at <br />Gateway. <br /> <br />Mr. C~uck Soderholm pointed out that the plan is to improve an existing <br />airport; not build a new airport. Very few airports have the clear zones ar~ <br />safety measures that would be built into Gateway. <br /> <br />Mr. Otto stated that approximately 75% of the Nation's airports are of <br />oomparable size as that proposed for Gateway. <br /> <br />Mr. Terry Hendriksen stated that an airport in a Metro area cannot be oomp~red <br />to airports in Wyoming, for instance; Gateway would be competing with Anoka <br />Oounty, Crystal, St. Paul, etc. <br /> <br />Mr. Ippel stated that Gateway would not be competing with those facilities <br />because they are of a different size and rating; what is r. cc~ed is a basic <br />utility facility which will serve the co~ty for a long period of time. <br />~t~e de-regulation going on in the airline industry has left many ~all towns <br />not being served by scheduled airlines. <br /> <br />Mr. Terry }{endriksen noted that Mr. Ippel has interrupted two of his <br />statements this evening and stated that this is not done at Planning and <br />Zoning meetings. Mr. Bendriksen stated that he gets the feeling this airport <br />is being ra~d down his throat everytime he tries to express legitimate heart- <br />felt objections. Mr. ~endriksen stated he was invited to this meeting to <br />better m~derstand what is being proposed and he doesn't think that Mr. Ippel's <br />talking over him and not hearing his objections is going to serve that <br /> <br />Go~cilms~er (]ox stated that he thought the intent of this joint meeting was <br />to explain the airport plan being proposed; that it was not intended to be a <br />public hearing or oonfrontation.
