The plant currently
serves the cities of Anoka and Champlin. In about 1985, it
is projected that a portion of Ramsey will be sewered. Based
on current flow projections for Anoka and Champlin, the
existing plant will become hydraulically overloaded in 1984.
The existing site is limited as to future expansion but could
accommodate approximately a doubling in size, which will be
adequate for the remainder of the century.

Sludge processing is currently accomplished by anaerobic
digestion.

Sludge is disposed of by either hauling to the Metropolitan
Plant interceptor system or land spreading. Currently, the.
MWCC .is examining'ultimate disposal' of sludge from each of
its treatment plants. However, no recommendations regarding
the future handling of sludge have been made for the Anoka
facility.

The current interceptor river crossing from Champlin to Anoka
is not adequate to serve the entire population of Chs3nplin.
Documented cases of on-site systems failures in central and

* WWTP = Wastewater Treatment Plant.
