I
I
I
I
i
I

!
!
I
I
I
!
!

SECTION VI

URBAN PLANNING DISTRICT

The Metropolitan Development Guide states that "Urban
service areas should be expanded where needed between 1975
and 1990 to permit a broad choice of living and working
environments in urban, suburban and rural towns." "Urban
development should be guided into an urban service area --
where urban services such as sewers, roads, transit and parks
are or will be provided."

The guide also states that the urban service areas in
each sector should permit reasonable economy in the provision
of metropolitan services. The use of existing investments in
sewers, highways, parks, transit and other metropolitan and
local services should be maximized while minimizing the cost
of providing additional services.

The Metropolitan Development Guide and the community
goals and objectives previously stated establish the basic
criteria used for the selection of the 1990 Urban Planning
District boundaries.

Housing Needs: The City has an abundance of large lot
single family housing in existence. An ample supply of .platted
large lots exists (995 one acre or larger lots as of October,
1975) so that large, medium to high cost homes will continue
in good supply without further land consumption.

- 21 -
