I
I
I
i

i

I
I
!
!
!
I
i

Timing of
Proposed Development

The existing Airports Chapter of the Metropolitan
Development Guide recommends that the Metropolitan Airports
Commission (MAC) periodically assess the capabilities of
Wold-Chamberlain and thus estimate when the new airport
will be needed. Forecasts made in 1972 had indicated that
the capacity of Wold would be reached in the middle or
late I980's. It must be noted, however, that aviation
trends have changed in recent years. The scheduled evaluation
of the present metropolitan airport system coupled~ with the
analysis of the Wold-Chamberlain master plan currently
underway may result in changes to earlier estimates
regarding the timing of a new major airport.

Conditions on Use

The conditions on development and operation of this proposed
airport would affect primarily the MAC and are, therefore,
omitted here. Those conditions that would have an effect
on land use planning in Ramsey seem to be met by the
location of this search area in the rural use region.
Planning that is compatible with the preservation of rural
land use will also tend to preserve the site for timely
acquisition and airport development.

Airport Search Area A (Planned Facility)

Character

The present Airports chapter designates Search Area A as
the location for a general aviation airport~of approximately
600 acres, 250 acres of which would be for facility develop-
ment. At ultimate development this airport ~vould have
three run~vays with a configuration similar to that sho~vn in
Map B3, (used for system planning purposes).

Location

Search Area A is located at the intersection point of Anoka,
Hennepin, Wright, and Sherburne Counties and encompasses
portions of the Cities of Ramsey and Dayton in the metro-
politan area (Map B4).

Function

This airport would provide public service to operators of
small single-engine and light twin-engine propeller aircraft
primarily for training, pleasure flying and business
operations. The service area would include western Anoka
and northern Hennepin Counties and northeastern Wright
and southern Sherburne Counties . This facility would be
classified as a "basic utility" airport and would operate
under visual flying rules (VFR).

MAY 2 6 19'/7

'!

15
