Public and Semi- Public Areas

As suggested by the introductory section to the land use plan, public and semi-
publio areas are comprised of wetlands and marshes plus soils with inadequate drainage
connected by developable parcels which will help create an open space system within
Ramsey linking all residential areas with major recreational reserves. To date, the
Township has a series of approximately one dozen small parks dedicated by the
developers of individual subdivisions. Most of the land has been within the marsh
areas suggesting a need for more careful screening of the land dedications. While
the marsh areas are important to have under community control, the neighborhoods
created should also have small parks capable of being developed into various recrea-
tional activities.

Unfortunately existing resources of the Township do not suggest that such a system
is possible in the foreseeable future. Because of this much of the land recommended
for public use will be unavailable once the population can afford large land acquisi-
tions. For this reason, the Township has discussed the possibility that future develop-
ment should contribute both land and money for park purposes. The land acquired
through dedication would continue to be the marshes whereas the cash could be
utilized to purchase needed~recreational space. More~emphasis will be supplied
later in the section on community facilities.

!

I
I
I
i
I
!

!
I
I
I
I
!
I
