Absent: Councilmernber Kurak. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he appreciated the City's efforts in hiring contract employees to <br />perfbrm this work. <br /> <br />2) Second Reading and Adoption of an Ordinance Authorizing a Salary <br />Increase for the Mayor <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed stated in response to a request by the City Council at the May <br />18, 2004 Work Session, the Assistant CiW Administrator presented information regarding current <br />compensation for mayors and council members in other cities. It was the consensus of the City <br />Council that staff should bring back an ordinance proposing a salary increase for the Mayor and <br />Council Members in the amount of $10;000 and $6,000, respectively. She stated that during the <br />discussion of the introduction of this ordinance at the June 22, 2004 City Council meeting, the <br />City Council voted to amend the ordinance to reflect that the salary for Council Members would <br />remain the same and the Mayor's salary would be increased to $10,000, effective January 1, <br />2005. <br /> <br />Motion by Councihnember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to approve the second <br />reading and adopt the ordinance authorizing a salary increase for the Mayor. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was performed: <br /> <br />Councihnember Cook nay. <br />Councilmember Elvig aye <br />Councilmember Kurak (absent) <br />Councihnember Pearson aye <br />Councilmember Strommen nay <br />Councilmember Zimmen2an nay <br />Mayor Gamec aye <br /> <br />Motion failed on a ~-_> tie. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: City Administrator Norman requested clarification regarding next steps. <br />Councilmember Cook stated his belief the issue should go bacl~ to the Personnel Committee for <br />further review and to work out a more equitable solution for presentation to the City Council. <br /> <br />It was the consensus of the City Cbuncil to bring the issue before the entire City Council in a <br />work session. <br /> <br /> 3) Consider Authorization to Hire a Public Works Maintenance Worker- <br />Human Resources Manager Reed 'reported 'that in June 2004, the Public Works Maintenance <br />position was advertised internally. Four applications were received and all four applicants were <br />interviewed. The Personnel Committee is recommending that E.
